The Local Volume HI Survey (LVHIS)

HIPASS J1131-31
figure

HIPASS J1131-31 is a dwarf irregular galaxy with an HI systemic velocity of 716 km/s, originally discovered in HIPASS by us. Our ATCA HI maps reveal an unresolved source, centered at α,δ(J2000) = 11:31:34.6, -31:40:28.3. The star TYC 7215-199-1 (10.4 mag) nearly fully obscures the stellar body of this galaxy. GALEX UV images reveal a compact blue dwarf galaxy at the above position. Its closest neighbours are HIPASS J1132-32 (80 arcmin) and NGC 3621 (182 arcmin); projected distances are given in brackets. Based on its likely association with NGC 3621 (HIPASS J1118-32) we assign the same distance, ie. Dmem = 6.7 Mpc. We measure FHI = 1.13 Jy km/s, which corresponds to MHI = 1.2 × 107 M.
