The Local Volume HI Survey (LVHIS)

ESO 269-G058

ESO 269-G058 (HIPASS J1310-46A) is a peculiar I0-type dwarf galaxy at a TRGB distance of 3.80 ± 0.29 Mpc (Karachentsev et al. 2007). It was first catalogued in HI by Banks et al. (1999), who established it as a member of the Cen A Group. Using our ATCA HI data we measure a systemic velocity of 400 km/s and FHI = 5.4 Jy km/s, slightly lower than the HIPASS FHI (Koribalski et al. 2004), and derive MHI = 1.8 × 107 M. ESO 269-G058 exhibits a regular HI velocity field, but we note that its HI emission barely extends beyond the optical body. Its nearest neighbour is probably NGC 4945, over 2.5 degrees away. Hα emission was detected by Phillips et al. (1986), and Crnojevic et al. (2012) derive a stellar mass of ~9 × 108 M. The enhanced star formation observed in ESO 269-G058 may have been triggered by tidal interactions ~1 Gyr in the past (Davidge 2007).
