• The image of the Crab nebula (left) was constructed by overlaying separate radio, optical, and X-ray images.



• Clearly the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.



• Although no coordinate graticule is shown, the underlying geometry of the three images must have been made conformant (by regridding) in order for the images to register properly.
