The Local Volume HI Survey (LVHIS)

ESO 379-G024

ESO 379-G024 (HIPASS J1204-35) is a dwarf irregular galaxy at a Hubble distance of 4.9 Mpc, also located in the outskirts of the Cen A group. Using HIPASS we measure vsys = 631 km/s and obtain vLG = 356 km/s. The 6dF optical velocity for ESO 379-G024 is 652 ± 55 km/s. Its nearest neighbour is likely the galaxy ESO 379-G007 (HIPASS J1154-33), ~3 degrees away. The ATCA HI distribution of ESO 379-G024 is noticeably lopsided, with more HI gas on the south-western side. The HI velocity field is somewhat irregular, suggesting a mixture of low rotation and peculiar velocities. We measure FHI = 2.6 Jy km/s, within the uncertainties of the HIPASS FHI, and derive MHI = 1.5 × 107 M.
