LBA Fringe Finders

The three best sources to use for fringe finders are 1921-293, 0537-441 and 3C273. 0208-512 may also be used during the brief period when none of those 3 are visible. At 22 GHz, 3C279 is the preferred source if available. At Parkes these sources are above the elevation limits for the following LST ranges.

Source LST rise LST set
1921-293 14:40 00:10
0537-441 00:25 10:52
3C273 09:00 15:55
0208-512 19:10 08:45
3C279 08:00 17:54

For a standard array comprising telescopes in Australia and New Zealand, you should choose a fringe finder at any given LST from this uptime plot.

Parkes and Hartebeesthoek have very limited mutual visibility, so for an array including Hartebeesthoek and ATCA, but omitting Parkes, the fringe finder for any given LST may be chosen from this uptime plot.

Below is a list of potential fringe finders to use with LBA observations if the sources above are unsuitable for some reason. Flux densities are the "unresolved" fluxes from Leonid Petrov's RFC catalogue. Please note these may not be accurate for some sources, and all listed sources are likely to vary. 5 cm flux densities are from LBA experiment vt026a (2019-09-30) and include links to uv plots to help gauge resolution (some sources included baselines to Hart, but unfortunately not all).
