Recent ADAPs have celebrated the 60th birthday of the Parkes 64m radio telescope,
which a year ago this week was given the Wiradjuri name
Murriyang.
The image above however is from an earlier birthday celebration, in 2003,
which was marked by a visit from the US Ambassador, visiting to
launch the Parkes support of NASA's Mars missions at the time.
The events that delayed the arrival of the guests from Sydney are detailed in
this ATNF Newsletter, but they did arrive eventually, and were able to
enjoy the birthday cake!
