The
Interstellar Frontiers 2024 conference was held
recently in Perth and on-line, bringing
together researchers interested in
the search for extra-terrestrial life.
One of the participants was Ron Ekers, captured (literally!) above one evening
after dinner with colleagues.
Ron has had a long-standing interest in SETI (the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence),
from co-authoring
A Search for Sharply Pulsed Emissions in 1979, and
A Search for Artificial Signals From the Small Magellanic Cloud in 1996,
to co-editing the book
SETI 2020: A Roadmap for the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence.
At the Interstellar Frontiers meeting, Ron gave a presentation
entitled "All-sky transient monitors – terrestrial and lunar far-side",
giving a considering on potential locations for future SETI searches.
"Potential" is perhaps the key word here, as in the image above Ron
appears to have found himself trapped in a 3-D potential well!
