About Us

Overview
The Engineering Management Team (EMT) is a small, internationally-constituted, group that will oversee the technical and planning aspects of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project.  The EMT will report to the International SKA Steering Committee (ISSC) and will also have close, regular, interactions with the proposed Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC).  This page includes links to several sub-sections that provide you with information about the EMT and its members.

Chair's Message
For many of us, it is no exaggeration to say that the SKA will be the most exciting professional project of our lives.  Those of us working on the project in these early days have witnessed a remarkable increase in the momentum of the SKA enterprise and, along with all this activity, has come the need to organize the international project a little better.  Following the formal constitution of the International SKA Steering Committee, the EMT is the first of the subsidiary bodies to begin operation.  We expect close links to develop with our colleagues in the science and site committees as those bodies also become functional.

The August 2000 Jodrell Bank meeting set out a number of specific functions for the EMT, and these are listed below.  From my perspective though, the main role of the EMT is that of an intellectually honest advisor to the ISSC on matters related to engineering science, practice and project management.  Membership of the team has now been finalised by the ISSC and it is clear that we have gathered a critical mass of the requisite talent.

I hope that you find the EMT Web presence to be useful and we welcome any suggestions for its development.  I look forward to working with you all.

Dr Peter Hall,

EMT Chair.
