Wildlife at the ATCA
by Andreas Herzog (Bochum University, Germany)
Not only kangaroos, goannas, and spiders are attracted by the impressive Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA). This picture, taken in the early evening on 27th December 2013, shows a boar at the western end of the 3km long tracks which allow five of the six dishes to form different configurations. The boar was leading a trail of a few shoats (not visible on the picture, unfortunately). However, it decided not to cross the street, turned and disappeared in the close by bush, followed by the shoats. The summits of Mount Kaputar National Park are visible in the background.
