MALT-45: A 7 mm survey of the southern Galaxy
by Christopher Jordan (University of Tasmania)
MALT-45 is a Galactic plane survey for star formation, which uses the Australia Telescope Compact Array in a unique way. One significant result from the 5 degr2 survey is a statistically complete sample of class I methanol masers; only 19 were known in this region previously, where we find 77. With the large sample of masers, we are able to compare the population against other star-forming maser species, in an effort to better understand methanol masers.
