Science meets Parliament 2016
by Karen Lee-Waddell (CASS)

The 16th annual Science meets Parliament took place on 1-2 March 2016. This event brought 200 scientists to Australia's capital city so they could share their research with policymakers and parliamentarians. Day 1 comprised a workshop of various talks and activities to prepare scientists for their meetings with politicians, followed by a Gala Dinner at the Parliament House. Day 2 involved face-to-face group meetings with parliamentarians (including the Prime Minister), attending the nationally televised Chief Scientist address at the National Press Club and sitting in during parliamentary Question Time.

Astronomers who attended the event include (from left to right): Alex Dunning (CASS), Vanessa Moss (University of Sydney), Brent Groves (Australian National University), Karen Lee-Waddell (CASS) and Lee Spitler (Macquarie University). Image credits: Mark Graham, Science meets Parliament 2016.
