Tribute to Bruce Slee
by Joss Bland-Hawthorn (Sydney University)
The first demonstration of radio interferometry in astronomy came from "sea interferometry" by Bolton and Slee in 1947 at Dover Heights.
The Yagi antenna looks out to sea from atop the cliffs. As Cygnus A rose above the horizon, the signal detected directly interfered with the signal reflected off the ocean.
