As described in a previous ADAP, the vacation students hosted by CSIRO Space and Astronomy over the 2025/26 (southern hemisphere) summer were hosted at many of the Space and Astronomy sites. Parkes Observatory hosted Cayley Tonks, who contributed to outreach activities at the Visitor Centre and learnt about the Observatory’s operations. Part of Cayley’s introduction to the Observatory was a tour of Murriyang, the 64m radiotelescope. As weather conditions were calm, and Cayley was willing, she was harnessed up and given a birds-eye view from the top of the focus cabin, while the telescope was stowed for maintenance work!
