Pictured is Lee Spitler (right), co-PI of the
Huntsman project, and
Juan Madrid (left), new member of CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science (CASS) and
the WALLABY project. Additional lenses for the Huntsman observing system are
now in the many boxes pictured here. They will be assembled early next year to
expand the capabilities of the Huntsman that is based upon the
Dragonfly
Telephoto Array, which uses off the shelf Canon lenses to target extremely
faint stellar structures. Like the multiple lenses of a Huntsman spider, an
array of Canon lenses will enable the study of faint stellar structures at
the outskirts of and in between galaxies. It will complement searches for
faint HI gas streams using the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) as part
of the WALLABY project.
