Five new Fast Radio Bursts
by Simon Johnston (CASS)
This figure from Champion et al. shows 5 Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) discovered using the Parkes radio telescope as part of the HTRU survey. FRB 121002 clearly shows a double structure and also has the highest dispersion measure of any FRB found to date. The authors revise the rate of FRBs to be 6000 per sky per day visible to the Parkes telescope. Their origin remains a mystery!
