ATCA remote observing from Socorro |
by Juergen Ott (NRAO) |
A happy PI (Juergen Ott) remotely observing
the Galactic Centre with the ATCA from Socorro, New Mexico, USA. The goal of
SWAG (Survey of Water and
Ammonia in the Galactic Center) is to simultaneously map 42 spectral lines
and wideband continuum across the entire Central Molecular Zone in >6000
pointings. The data will be used to characterise the physical conditions
(temperature, density, shocks, ionization, and UV-dominated regions) in this
extreme environment, and to observe stars in the making. Photo credit: J. Ott/V. Rosero/D. Medlin |
