Murchison Widefield Array - science with robot spiders |
by Randall Wayth (Curtin University) |
The Murchison Widefield Array's
72 new antenna
tiles have been deployed and are ready for commissioning in July. For the
second half of 2016, the MWA will be reconfigured to use the 72 new tiles plus
54 of the existing antennas in a compact configuration which is optimised for
Epoch of Reionisation (EoR) science. Details of the array configuration can be
found in the MWA 2016-B
call for
proposals. The photo above shows some of the new "hex configuration" tiles
with the CAASTRO
BIGHORNS antenna cone in the background. Follow Greg Robotham's blog ("The Cosmos Consultant" - A journey to the edge of the universe and back again) to keep up to date on MWA construction, updgrades and amazing science. Photo Credit: Greg Robotham (ICRAR) |
