Overview of NARIT and Future Prospects for Astronomy Development in Thailand

Abstract. Since the
establishment of the National Astronomical Research Institute of
Thailand (NARIT) directly under Ministry of Science and Technology in
2009, astronomy development in Thailand has advanced with fast pace,
both in research and infrastructure. One of the key successes of NARIT
is not only to focus on astronomy research but also to concentrate on
making a big impact on astronomy education for schools and the public
in Thailand at regional and national level. I will give an overview of
our current activities and the next steps by NARIT in using astronomy
as a tool in human resource and technology development towards a
sustainable development for Thailand.
