Evolution and disappearance of the magnetar J1622-4950
by Simon Johnston (CASS)
The magnetar PSR J1622-4950 was found as part of the High Time Resolution Universe Survey with the Parkes telescope. In Scholz et al. (2017) we report on timing of the pulsar over a period of 2.5 years since the end of 2011.

The figure shows the changing of the pulse profile over this period. Such behaviour is very unusual in radio pulsars but typical for magnetars for reasons which are only poorly understood. The magnetar turned-off in March 2014 and was not detected in the subsequent 3 years.
