International Women's Day |
Today is International Women's Day!
March 8th was adopted for International Women's Day by the United Nations in 1975, but
was recognised in some countries long before then, including Russia, where
March 8 became a public holiday after women gained suffrage - the right to vote - in 1917.
(In 1902, Australia became the
second country in the world, after New Zealand in 1893, to give women the vote.)
The day will be marked by events across CSIRO, including a morning tea at Marsfield.
