With the launch of the Parker Solar Probe over the weekend,
today's ADAP looks back at
the history of solar research within CSIRO..
Yesterday's ADAP showed an antenna of the Culgoora radio-heliograph,
which was located on the site of the Australia Telescope Compact Array
near Narrabri in northern NSW.
The radio-heliograph, which operated initially at 80 MHz and was
later expanded to operate at 160 MHz
(
and has appeared in a previous ADAP).
The heliograph was co-located with some optical solar telescopes, and the
image above shows the Sun’s disk, or chromosphere, as photographed in 1968
with 5-inch flare patrol telescope of the Solar Observatory Culgoora.
