Monitoring AAVS at the MRO
The Aperture Array Verification System (AAVS) is the testbed for the SKA consortium, to evaluate equipment and confirm the performance of antennas before the rollout of the full SKA-Low. Located on the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory site, There have been several AAVS test arrays, as potential antenna designs for SKA-Low have matured, and the image above shows the SKALA-4 antenna design. A previous ADAP has noted the presence of bungarras (also known as the sand monitor or Gould's monitor) on the MRO site. The image above is from a video about the AAVS produced by ICRAR.
