The Parkes Observatory held Open Days to commemorate the
50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moonwalk over the
weekend of 20-21 July 2019. Large crowds
appreciated the opportunity to take a tour of the telescope structure
or alternatively a ground tour viewing the Dish from a distance.
More than one guest appreciated the chance to see John Bolton
Avenue, the tree-lined road leading to the telescope which
features in the opening scenes of The Dish.
John Bolton was the first Officer in Charge of the Parkes Observatory,
including the years when the Dish supported the Apollo missions.
