Demolition of the old AAO buildings
The 3.9m Anglo-Australian Telescope at Siding Spring was inaugurated in October 1974, and work began the following year on the Anglo-Australian Observatory headquarters on the CSIRO site at Marsfield. UK involvement in the AAO ceased in 2010, with the AAO becoming the Australian Astronomical Observatory, and relocating to North Ryde. The AAO buildings had been unused since, and works to demolish them began a couple of months ago. In 2018, the AAO became Australian Astronomical Optics, before subsequently being renamed Astralis.
