The Narrabri Visitors Centre
The Australia Telescope Compact Array was formally opened by then Prime Minister Bob Hawke in September 1988, and started operating as a National Facility in 1990. Construction of the $181,000 Visitors Centre was finished in late 1989, and early in 1990 it was opened to the public. An official opening was held in April 1992 by then Minister for Science, the Hon. Ross Free. The Visitors Centre is open daily and attracts around 10,000 visitors each year.
