A Circumhorizontal Arc at CDSCC
Spectacular skies were spotted at the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex recently. Circumhorizontal arcs, like that pictured above, are formed by the refraction of sunlight in ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. They appear as a multi-coloured band (with red topmost) running parallel to the horizon, located 46 degrees below the Sun. (Image credit: @CanberraDSN)
