This week marked the 20th anniversary of the opening of the
Dish Cafe
at the Parkes Observatory.
The Cafe was opened by Ron Ekers, the immediate past Director of the CSIRO Australia Telescope National Facility.
In his remarks at the opening, Ron noted that when he first came to Parkes as a Summer Student in the early 1960s
he would have been looked at strangely if he had asked for a cappucino but
that many things have changed for the better, and he looked forward to having his first coffee in the new cafe.
A previous ADAP shows that Ron did not have to wait long!
The picture above shows, from left to right, John Reynolds (then Officer-in-Charge of the Parkes Observatory),
Michael Carter, Ron Ekers, and Andrea Carter.
The Carters were the driving force for establishment of the Dish Café
and the proprietors for its first two years.
