The new Phased-Array Feed (PAF) now installed in the focus of ASKAP antenna 2. The beautiful chequerboard pattern shows the 188 dipole elements used to form 36 beams, each with ~1 degree field of view. Together these 36 PAF beams allow us to observe 30 square degrees of the sky in on pointing, making radio continuum images and HI data cubes. – HI is the 21-cm spectral line of neutral hydrogen, one of the key ingredients of spiral galaxies like the Milky Way.
