Published today in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, the first catalogue from the GaLactic and Extragalactic All-sky Murchison Widefield Array (GLEAM) survey comprises flux density and morphology measurements for over 300,000 radio galaxies across the low, wide frequency range of 72 — 231 MHz, with a flux scale accurate to better than 8%.

The image shows a “radio colour” view of GLEAM above a “tile” of the MWA radio telescope, located in the Murchsion Radio Observatory, also home to ASKAP. Red indicates 72–103 MHz, green 103–134 MHz and blue 139–170MHz. The synchrotron emission of the Milky Way is visible as a band across the sky, Centaurus A is just setting, and the Large Magellanic Cloud is on the left. A video of this view, cross-faded with an optical time lapse, can be found here .
