Ma et al. (2016) have used NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and other telescopes, including the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA), to show that a recently-discovered galaxy is undergoing an extraordinary boom of stellar construction (SFR ~ 4500 Msun/yr). The galaxy, known as SPT0346-52, is 12.7 billion light years from Earth (z = 5.656), seen at a critical stage in the evolution of galaxies about a billion years after the Big Bang.
