Looking down on the surface of the 500-m Chinese Radio Telescope (FAST). The insets show: (top) The focus cabin with the ultra-wide-bandwidth receiver (270 MHz to 2 GHz) pointing out the bottom. (middle) The FAST control room during a timing observation of the millisecond pulsar PSR J1022+1001 demonstrating that the telescope can track a source, that we can obtain high precision timing data and that the observation can be calibrated. (bottom) Prof Di Li and Ms Lei Zhang confirming a FAST new pulsar candidate using the Parkes telescope. We were successful and now nine pulsars have been discovered by FAST and confirmed by Parkes.
