The annual Perth AstroFest was held last weekend at Curtin University Stadium. Organised by Astronomy WA and ICRAR, Astrofest is a free event featuring an astrophotography exhibition, inflatable planetariums, science shows, public talks and of a host of telescopes pointed to the sky above. The image above shows staff at the SKA booth ready to answer questions from attendees. The “Christmas Tree” in the centre is a low frequency antenna: the design for the SKA-Low site in Western Australia uses around 130,000 such antennas, operating over the 50 to 350 MHz range.
