Last Friday’s ADAP celebrated the anniversary of the opening of the Honeysuckle Creek tracking station in 1967 . After Honeysuckle Creek Tracking Station closed in 1981, the antenna was dismantled and moved to the Canberra Deep Space Communications Complex at Tidbinbilla. The quadrapod that supported the sub-reflector was removed and replaced with the self-supporting sub-reflector visible above. As DSS-46, the antenna continued to be part of the Deep Space Network, tracking mainly near-Earth spacecraft for many years including, from 1983 to 1986, Space Shuttle missions. The antenna was retired from service in December 2009. (Image credit: @CanberraDSN)
