Radio continuum images of SNR J0624-6948 at 1250 MHz (MeerKAT, left) and at 943 MHz (ASKAP, right) (from Sasaki et al. 2025).

February 25, 2025

When a star dies, it can explode in a supernova, causing a strong shock wave and forming an interstellar object called a supernova remnant (SNR). Observational studies of SNRs allow […]

The trained 10x10 SOM (self-organising map) with their morphological labels: C (Compact) sources, EC (Extended Compact), CD (Connected Double) sources, SD (Split Double) sources, T (Triple) sources, U/A (Uncertain/Ambiguous) sources (from Alam et al. 2025).

February 24, 2025

The next generations of radio surveys are expected to identify tens of millions of new sources, and identifying and classifying their morphologies will require novel and more efficient methods. Self-organising […]

Profile and dynamic spectrum of the Fast Radio Burst FRB 20230708A (from Dial et al. 2025)

February 14, 2025

There has been a rapid increase in the known fast radio burst (FRB) population, yet the progenitor(s) of these events have remained an enigma. A small number of FRBs have […]

Welcome to the ATNF Daily Astronomy Picture (ADAP), brought to you by staff and users of the Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF). Our aim is to present science and engineering results, research highlights from recent publications, technical updates, telescope pictures, conference summaries, etc.

Our site was inspired by the fabulous Astronomy Picture of the Day – @APOD and the ASTRON/Jive Daily Image – @dailyimage.

We welcome all ATNF users to submit an image related to our facilities (Parkes, ATCA, Mopra, ASKAP and LBA), together with a brief description and credits. Submissions can be emailed to the ADAP curator, (phil.edwards [at] csiro.au).

The ADAP was created in December 2014 by Baerbel Koribalski and Simon Johnston. Over 2500 ADAPs have now been published. Vince McIntyre, Nathan Pope, and Andrew O’Brien are acknowledged for their dedicated technical support. The ADAP is currently curated by Phil Edwards.
