The Australia Telescope Compact Array consists of six 22m diameter antennas. Five can be moved along a 3km east-west rail-track, with a 214m north-south spur, with the sixth antenna at a fixed location 3km to the west of the east-west track. Usually, all six antennas observe the same celestial source at the same time, however the unusual perspective above makes it appear they are all viewing different parts of the sky! This “Planet ATCA” view was captured by Mark Wieringa when the array was in a compact “hybrid” configuration, with two antennas along the north-south spur.
