Learning in low frequency: Charting a path for SKA from LOFAR and ASTRON

Abstract:

LOFAR is one of the highest-impact Observatories on the planet. I will discuss its achievements, technical and scientifically and how vital the path to LOFAR has been, and will be, for SKA-Low success. LOFAR2.0 is currently finishing construction and will be operational at the end of 2026. I will show the benefits of aligning the parallel projects, both scientifically and technically, and the crucial role the community can play in accelerating the success of both telescopes, as well as other ASTRON technology initiatives with strong future synergies with next-generation Australian radio astronomy plans.
