The Marsfield headquarters of CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science welcomed the ABC to site this week, during the meetings of the ATNF Time Assignment Committee (TAC).
CSIRO operates a number of radio astronomy observatories, collectively known as the Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF).
They offer a powerful view of the southern hemisphere radio spectrum and support world-leading research by Australian and international astronomers.
The article interviews executive officer Jill Rathborne, who said the TAC, which meets twice a year to consider applications for use, has received more than 115 applications for the six months from October and has met for the past two days to assess the applications.
“We have a fantastic resource, the telescopes that we run here in Australia,” Dr Rathborne told The World Today.
