Juan Madrid comes from Gemini where he was a
Science Fellow. The picture above is of Juan in front of Gemini South in Cerro
Pachon, Chile. This telescope is located at 2600 m above sea level at the
southern end of the Atacama desert, the driest place on Earth. He has done
research in extragalactic astronomy in the optical and ultraviolet (with the
HST). Juan is very excited about the new capabilities of ASKAP and the
opportunity of combining ASKAP's first science data with imaging at other
wavelengths.
