Properties of low-frequency pulsars |
by Martin Bell (CASS) |
A recently accepted paper by
Bell et al. (2016) entitled
"Time-domain and spectral properties of low frequency pulsars" explores
Southern hemisphere pulsars using the Murchison Widefield Array. Over a number
of years the flux densities of all Southern hemisphere pulsars where monitored
via imaging observations. Out of a bright sample of 17, one pulsar in
particular J0953+0755 (shown in the figure) displayed extreme variability
associated with diffractive scintillation in the interstellar medium.
The left panel shows the light curve of this pulsar from full bandwidth
continuum images, while the right panel shows the dynamic spectrum where
the pulsar is undetected in certain frequency chunks and as bright as ~50 Jy
in others. Reference: Bell, Murphy, Johnston et al. 2016, MNRAS, in press |
