Rainbow near ASKAP in the Murchison Shire
by Brett Hiscock (CASS)
Is there a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow ? .. we might never know. Instead of gold astronomers seek to find distant galaxies, black holes, jets and dark clouds, large reservoirs of hydrogen gas, radio bursts, cosmic magnetic fields, and much more. The radio telescopes that allow us to do this are the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) and the Murchison Wide-field Array (MWA), located in the Murchison Shire. -- This picture was taken near the ASKAP accomodation, depicting part of the runway outlined by white cones with solar lights.
