Earlier this month the Australia Telescope Compact Array celebrated
the 30th anniversary of its official opening.
The image above of the ATCA,
from CSIRO's Scienceimage library,
dates from 1989 and shows the Visitors Centre (roughly mid-image) under construction.
The building was finished in late 1989 and opened in early 1990, with an official
opening finally taking place in April 1992.
The other notable point about the image is how green the site was at the time --
with most of NSW currently suffering drought conditions, verdant scenes like this are
unfortunately distant memories.
