Australia Telescope Compact Array antennas reflected in the window of the ATCA Control Building.

The Australia Telescope User Committee is meeting this week, and an ATCA Science Day was held yesterday to explore new opportunities and highlight ATCA’s unique capabilities in the SKA era. Talks covered a wide range of topics, including the strengths and capabilities of the ATCA following the current BIGCAT upgrade, making the most of the ATCA’s rapid-response capability, multi-wavelength synergies with new facilities such the CTA Observatory and the Vera Rubin Observatory, the ATCA’s role in the SKA era, the importance of the ATCA to southern hemisphere VLBI, the possibilities for spectral line studies, and opportunities for space domain awareness. In addition there were open discussion sessions on Bringing the transient community together, and Training and Automation. The Science Day was well attended both in person at Marsfield and on-line, with the chance to reflect upon the ATCA’s future embraced by the user community.
