The LOTRUN survey will survey the Galactic radio sky at sub-second timescales. The survey comprises 20 fields spanning a total of 720 square degrees, ranging galactic longitudes -48° < l < 48°. Each field will be observed for 2 hours at a time, with 5 repeats spaced ~monthly, totalling 200h of observing time. Survey observations commence in September 2025.
Data will be recorded simultaneously with the standard ASKAP correlator (“continuum”; 10 second resolution) and the high time resolution CRACO backend (110 millisecond resolution). Continuum data products, including continuum images, mosaics, source catalogues, and visibilities, will be publicly available on CASDA. In addition, 110 ms resolution visibilities recorded by CRACO will be deposited on CASDA for full public access. All LOTRUN data will be deposited under Project ID AS116.
For questions regarding the survey, please contact the survey lead, Andrew Zic.

The CSIRO-developed Phased Array Feed (PAF) technology provides ASKAP with a large field-of-view. The PAF forms 36 independent beam directions simultaneously in a “footprint”, which can be used to survey large areas of sky efficiently. The LOTRUN survey makes use of the ASKAP square_6x6 footprint, which provides a field of view of 36 square degrees.

The survey fields were chosen on the basis of access to low Galactic latitudes, where the stellar density is highest, while maximising the potential for discoveries at short timescales by avoiding regions where radio wave scattering is likely strongest. The field locations in equatorial and galactic coordinates are provided below.
