This week the annual International Astronautical Congress (IAC) is being held in Sydney, organised by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF). Founded in 1951, the International Astronautical Federation is the world’s leading space advocacy body with more than 560 members in 81 countries, including all leading space agencies, industries, research institutions, universities, societies, associations, institutes and museums worldwide. As organiser of the annual International Astronautical Congress – the world’s premier global space event – the IAF actively encourages the development of space activities for peaceful purposes and supports the dissemination of scientific and technical information related to space. The guiding theme of IAC 2025 Sydney is “Sustainable Space: Resilient Earth”, which will explore the essential connection between space innovation and sustainability, focusing on three central areas: space-based applications for Earth; sustainable space activities; and sustaining life beyond Earth. A number of presentations will be given by CSIRO Space & Astronomy staff during the meeting.
