| The installation of CSIRO-designed monolithic
microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) amplifiers in the Australia Telescope
Compact Array (ATCA), to observe radio signals at wavelength down to 3mm,
represented a world first for a radio telescope array. The image above shows
a 85 - 115 GHz MMIC low-noise amplifier mounted in a cryogenically coolable
