ASKAP HI map of the starburst galaxy NGC 253 |
by Karen Lee-Waddell (CASS) |
Last weekend 11 ASKAP antennas (each fitted
with a MkII generation PAF) were tuned to 1.4 GHz allowing observations of
the HI 21-cm spectral line in a nearby starburst galaxy, NGC 253. The 7-hour,
single beam, 1512 channel data set was preliminarily reduced using CASA (Common
Astronomy Software Applications software package). The images shown were
produced through the efforts of ACES (ASKAP Commissioning & Early Science)
team members. Figure caption: Preliminary HI velocity field of NGC 253 as obtained from the ASKAP-11 HI data cube. |
