Queen's Baton Relay at Parkes |
Queen's Baton Relay
is a relay around the world held prior to the beginning of the Commonwealth Games.
Day 35 of the relay saw the baton start in West Wyalong, travel to Forbes, and end at Parkes, with the baton
being passed from runner to runner as it passed through each town.
The baton ended the day with Parkes local, Darrin Gibson, who brought it to the Dish at the
beginning of Day 36.
The baton travels around Australia, passing through all states and territories, before
reaching the Gold Coast for the start of the Games on April 4th.
The image above shows Darrin at the edge of the 64m dish, with the 18 metre (60 foot) diameter
Kennedy antenna, used in the 1960s and 1970s, visible to the left of the image.
