Yesterday, a signing ceremony was held at Marsfield
with a visiting delegation from the
National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT).
NARIT has been funded to construct a 40 m radio telescope,
and the Letter of Intent recognises the possibilities for
collaboration in areas of mutual interest and benefit
to both sides.
After the documents were signed, by Dr Saran Poshyachinda,
Executive Director of NARIT, and Dr Douglas Bock,
Director of CASS, gifts were exchanged. CASS received a
framed photo of a night-time view of NARIT's optical observatory,
and CASS presented NARIT with a globe of Jupiter, which it
was noted passed through opposition (the point in its orbit where
it is 180 degrees from the sun as viewed from Earth) that very day!
