| The first Large Survey Project observations with MeerKAT |

| Abstract: In April 2018 the South African MeerKAT array took its first full 64-dish observations for two of its upcoming Large Survey Projects, namely ThunderKAT and MIGHTEE. On behalf of both of these survey teams, I will provide an overview of the design and science goals of these two surveys, present some of the images made to date, and discuss the data processing techniques and challenges.
