A wide field map of intracluster globular clusters in Coma
by Juan Madrid
The image above shows the surface density of globular clusters in the central regions of the Coma cluster. This heat map defines three main overdensities of globular clusters in Coma. The highest density of globular clusters in Coma is cospatial with NGC 4889. The most extended agglomeration of globular clusters can be associated with NGC 4874. A third overdensity is associated with IC 4051.

The large-scale distribution of globular clusters in the central region of the Coma cluster of galaxies was derived through the analysis of Hubble Space Telescope/Advanced Camera for Surveys data. A total of 22,426 Globular cluster candidates were selected through a detailed morphological inspection and the analysis of their magnitude and colors. Full results are presented in the paper, published in The Astrophysical Journal , and described in the STScI press release .
